The warm, electric and exciting atmosphere proved to be the perfect anecdote for the cold, depressing and dreary weather as the 28th Annual Pizzalympics were celebrated on Sunday, April 14 at our Edina shop.
Amid the DEAFENING cheers of hundreds of employees, friends and family members, the intense competition demonstrated once again why DAVANNI'S Pizza IS the best. Because we have the BEST Pizzamakers.
In the team competition, the trio from Eden Prairie - Dave Shingledecker, Ashley Smith, and Dan Gutierrez - proved that to get the Best of the Best Twin Cities Pizza, customers must venture forth to this southwest corner of our universe. The Arden Hills team of Emerald LaCroix, George Treman, and Amanda Bossart, fresh off their appearance on Friday's "Twin Cities Live" (KSTP Channel 5), took second. The Grand & Cleveland Trio of Andrew Boucher, Kristy Gatheride, and Nicole Kesgard nabbed third.
In the individual competition, Uptown's Allen Aistrup defended in 2012 Championship. But now by much. In the closest individual competition ever, Allen bested Golden Valley's Kyle Moen, and Eden Prairie's Siva Tharmalingan.
Making pizzas is obviously the highest of all possible callings, but you have to put those Perfect Pizzas in something. Like a box. This year's Box Folding Champion was Cleveland and Grand's Joey Jay. Joey's flying frenzied fingers bested the home shop hero, Mitch Rotert. Nate Ahern from Woodbury boxed his way to third.
Of course, the medals, the plaques, the cash awards palled in comparison to the true winner of the competition, Ruby's Pantry. Ruby's was the recipient of more than 50 of the perfection pies.
The Kiddy Kup designed by Isabelle, a young customer at our Savage restaurant, was selected in online voting over the designs of three other young artists. Isabelle's design garnered 66% of the total votes cast, besting the designs of Ella (Rogers shop), Brooklyn (also Savage shop), and Maddie (Eagan shop).
Isabelle is a first grader. She enjoys drawing (yes, we know!). When not drawing, Isabelle is swimming, dancing or playing soccer. She has two younger sisters. She decided to enter the Design the Kiddy Kup Kontest when she was attending a FUNd-raiser at the Savage Shop. Most importantly, Isabelle's DAVANNI'S Favorite is a Deep Dish Cheese Pizza - and she really likes the Coca-Cola pop machine.
Isabelle wins a party for herself and 20 of her friends at the DAVANNI'S Savage. Her design will be featured on our Kiddy Kups beginning this June.
